Wordle on Texas

Today, we went to this amazing website called Wordle. We took some text from the Time Magazine article and did a copy and paste into the text box. We pressed the "go" button and this is what popped up:










  

A list of words from the article came up,  more specifically, the words that were used the most.
Bigger the word, the more it was used. So, why is Texas the biggest? Umm...












                      
(Hehe, if i had nickel for every time it says Texas..(Whoops got distracted for a second)) Okay! back on  track! So, why are some words bigger then others? Like Caliofornia and New York? In the Article, it using these places as examples and comparing them to Texas. The words "job" and "jobs" were used a lot too. In one section of the article, it talked about jobs of the young people in Texas. And probably slipped in the word "jobs" a couple times.

2081: Everyone Will Finally Be Equal

Just finished watching 2081 the movie. It was a great short film. It kind of followed the story, the dialog was spot on, but some parts were not in the paper. Such as, Harrison said there was a bomb in  the theater but really was a broadcasting device thing. The reporter was not replaced, but put handicaps on him to help.

Over all, it was a great short film!

My Questions on Harrison Bergeron

(Sorry, I thought this was a good picture, I don't know why it's so big. >.<)

For homework, we read a short story called Harrison Bergeron We highlighted the things we did not under stand and stuff we wanted to discuss in class.

5 Questions on the Time Magazine Article

On Friday, we were told to read a Time Magazine Article called, "Why Texas is Our Future." After we read the article, we had to write 5 questions that we asked about the article last weekend

Well, I forgot. (Oops)

1. When it says, "there is no ocean to constrict growth" what does that mean?

3.What does it mean when it says, "Texas, the most growth-friendly state in America?"

5 Most Important Things that I Learned in the Time Magazine Article

Unlike the last post, this one has 5 things I learned in the Texas article.

I don't think there is much to say besides that. So, here are my 5 listings:

1: Texas added 274,700 jobs in the last 12 months. ( This was written in 2013)

2: Texas is a cheap state to live in and thrive in.








3:People in college are the ones struggling the most in Texas. Only 35% are working full time jobs.








4. In 2012, the total migration from Texas, to the other 49 states was 106,000








5. Texas has an unemployment rate of 6.4% - but the national rate is 7.3%. ( At least the point of time this article was written.)









Okay, next is my paragraph answering the question, "Will it be good or bad if the rest of the United States becomes more like Texas?"

  Texas is the second biggest state in the United States. So, WILL it be bad or good if the USA becomes more like Texas? Lets find out. Texas' land is cheap and so are the houses and apartments. To find out the answer to the main question, lets ask, "Is it bad if land and houses are cheaper all across the USA?" Yes and No. This is good thing because land is cheaper, who doesn't like that? This is also bad, at least for land and property owners and companies. That is because of the amount of money they are making, but if the USA was to turn into one giant Texas, then land prices wouldn't be a problem. Land is also cheap because of its cheap labor. A middle-class Texan can only make so much and afford what they need. People are moving to Texas for its cheap living styles. Lets go back to the question, "Will it be good or bad if the rest of the United States becomes more like Texas?" I think the United States is fine the way it is right now, but if I was for one of the sides, I would be for the "good" side.

Three Maps of Texas

On Friday, we drew three different maps of Texas. The first was from memory, the second was from looking at a map of Texas, and the third is remembering the map by memory. The first row of maps have a distinct image of Texas. They all have the memorable, straight boundaries of New Mexico. The lines were not always straight, some of it was actually from New Mexico, until they divided the land to the Texas we have today. The second row of maps show more of the Texas image. This is because we looked at a map while drawing. The proportions improved tremendously and the boarders were improved and redefined.

Today, we wrote about two different topics, Reasons why I like Texas and Why People Might be Moving to Texas. We wrote some ideas down in Google Docs then copied the ideas on to a program called Padlet. Here are our ideas:

Topics of History that I Like the Most

From the nine main types of history , the one I enjoy the most is military history. I like learning how other lands were formed from war, like the Mexican-American war. We fought against the Mexicans in the south and in the end, we gained Texas. I also like learning about how treaties were signed to end wars. Peace treaties and treaties for land are some of most interesting types of treaties. I think Major Generals in wars is the most interesting to learn. I am actually related to Ulysses S.
