Three of My Favorite Time Periods in Texas History
My favorite time periods in Texas history are Republic, Early Statehood, and Modern Texas. The Republic period is full of Texas recovering from the Revolution against Mexico. Texas became its own nation, I think it would be interesting learning about what was going on in some of the president's minds when they became their own nation. For example, they could of been thinking, "What kind if currency would we use? Will we use pesos? Should we join the United States?" After these questions, Texas was annexed to the United States in 1845 and became a slave state, starting Texas' Early Statehood. After the annex, Texas joined the Confederates States of America in 1961. The Confederates lost and they all rejoined the US. Years later, in 1950, started the Modern days of Texas. I like the technology advancements and the big events. Such as Martin Luther King Jr., Kennedy getting shot, Ford getting shot, 9/11 and so on. Learning about the modern age i thinks interests me the most.
Time Periods in Texas History that I Think Are the Most Important
The Indians are one of the most important people to settle in Texas. If the Indians never settled in Texas, we would actually not have the name Texas! The Indians actually named Texas, which means "friendship". The Mexicans played a big role in the course of Texas history. The Mexicans allowed the Anglo-Americans to settle in Texas. If the Mexicans were not in Texas, the Anglo-Americans would have just settled in Texas without a revolution and could affect the time line of Texas history. The last most important period of Texas history is the Texas Revolution. If their was no Revolution, Texas still would have been owned by the Spanish.
You show excellent insights here, Wesley. Some of what you've written are more like hypotheses, educated guesses based on what was on the chart. A few of them aren't quite accurate (e.g., Ford wasn't assassinated), but I'm glad you are attempting to apply the knowledge you are acquiring. I especially like your insights into the presidents of the Republic. It really is interesting to watch these Texians try to establish a brand new nation, especially with such a small population trying to govern and protect a gigantic spread of land. It's also interesting to study the rivalry between Presidents Sam Houston and Mirabeau B. Lamar, as they had almost diametrically opposed goals and agendas plus a serious dislike for one another.
